STEP 2 Enable viewing of hidden files and folders and extensions.

For Windows XP:
1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.
Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
 For older systems:
1.
Double-click My Computer, click View, and then click Folder Options.
2.
On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders, and clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.

STEP 3 Empty
your Internet Explorer cache and your other temporary file folders. Use CCleaner Program.
To down load the above software please click here
STEP 4 Go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Pannel and Remove any suspicious Programs we recognize. We can use the
           Absolute Uninstaller Program.

STEP 5 Install the Necessary Downloaded Programs in Normal Mode and Update the necessary Definations.
EG: Adaware SE , CWShredder , SpyBot Search and Destroy .............

STEP 6 Boot into SAFE MODE via F8

STEP 7 RUN Msconfig to remove ( Uncheck ) the unwanted Auto-Started Programs and unwanted Auto-Started Services. We can use the Autoruns Program.

STEP 8 Check the "hosts" file and if it has any entries other than 127.0.0.1, comment them out. For Windows XP and 2000 look in
           C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

STEP 9 Check My Network Places and delete anything suspicious, especially FTP sites referenced by IP address.

STEP 10 Look for BHOs and disable anything you don't recognize. When in doubt disable it, you can always re-enable a BHO later.
Use the Software BHODemon to do the same or WinXP SP2 has its own IE Add-On Manager.

STEP 11 Run CWshredder Program. Fix anything it finds.
Run AdawareSE Program. Remove all Critical Objects. Sometimes AdAware will be unable to remove everything that it
finds and will prompt to be allowed to try again after restarting. If that happens, when the scan finishes restart immediately
and allow the scan to finish.
Run Spybot Search and Destroy. Fix anything marked red.

STEP 12 If you are unable to access the Internet after removing spyware you will need to run Winsockxpfix. Click on Start, then
Run and type CMD in the dialogue box that appears. Click OK. Type "netsh winsock reset" into the DOS window
             that appears.

STEP 13 REBOOT THE SYSTEM.

STEP 14 After Rebooting Run Windows Update manually, adjust IE settings for high security, lower the size of the IE cache and the
System Restore cache (XP and Me only), defrag, delete TEMP files and (for XP,2000) disable the Messenger service.
Install an anti-virus product and get it up to date (bug fixes and virus definitions). Set both the anti-virus software and
Windows Update or automatic updates. Needless to say, set up an anti-Spyware program to run in auto-protect mode.
